Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made a big announcement at the start of the year that he was starting work on an artificial intelligence to operate his home. Much like Iron Man's J.A.R.V.I.S. you might say. Well he's getting to the point where he needs a voice and Marvel's Robert Downey Jr. is offering up a few suggestions.
In January Zuckerberg wrote:
My personal challenge for 2016 is to build a simple AI to run my home and help me with my work. You can think of it kind of like Jarvis in Iron Man.
I'm going to start by exploring what technology is already out there. Then I'll start teaching it to understand my voice to control everything in our home — music, lights, temperature and so on. I'll teach it to let friends in by looking at their faces when they ring the doorbell. I'll teach it to let me know if anything is going on in Max's room that I need to check on when I'm not with her. On the work side, it'll help me visualize data in VR to help me build better services and lead my organizations more effectively.
Sure, sure, sure, it all sounds great until your AI realizes it doesn't want to work for you or need you at all, for that matter. Has our sci-fi past taught us nothing?!?
Anyway, Zuckerberg is full steam ahead and asked users yesterday to suggest a voice for his AI.
And RDJ answered.
Did he not watch Avengers: Age of Ultron? Also, way to go on the sly Doctor Strange marketing, Marvel.
Other suggestions from the crowd were Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hodor, Morgan Freeman, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Idris Elba, and Hugo Weaving. Who would you pick? Personally, I find Elba's voice to be very pleasant and if there's anything you want to hear before your inevitable violent destruction by technology, it's a pleasant voice.
