Showtime picks up ‘Penny Dreadful’ Season 3

John Logan's Victorian horror mash-up “Penny Dreadful” has mixed up a witches brew for a third season.

Showtime announced on Tuesday (June 16) that a nine-episode third “Penny Dreadful” season will shoot on location in Dublin and will premiere in 2016.

That episode splits the difference between the eight-episode first season and the current 10-episode second season, which will conclude on July 5.

The June 7 “Penny Dreadful” drew 1.08 million viewers, including 537,000 viewers in the 18-49 demo, making it slightly more popular in the key demo than “Turn” and slightly more popular overall than “Orphan Black.”

“John Logan”s brilliant writing and this amazingly talented ensemble continue to draw a passionate, global fan base into the meticulously crafted world of 'Penny Dreadful,'” blurbs Showtime President David Nevins. “Together with our wonderful partners at Sky Atlantic, we”re excited to see what new haunts John and his team have in store for Season 3.”

As is the case with nearly everything, I'm a few episodes behind on “Penny Dreadful,” which has been having a lot of fun this season with Helen McCrory as the malevolent and powerful Evelyn Poole.

I voted for Eva Green to get an Individual Achievement in Drama TCA Award nomination. She did not. She and the series are up for Emmy consideration for the first time after missing last year's Emmy deadline. I don't expect much, but… Well, I don't expect much.

Woot?
