‘The X-Files’ Will Serve Up A Second ‘Event Series’ In Its Revived Form

Fox isn’t done with Mulder and Scully quite yet. The revived era of The X-Files will continue with a new season. Or mini-series, if you prefer to look at it that way.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will return with a 10-episode installment set to arrive sometime during the 2017-18 season. Production on the new run kicks off this summer. Naturally, the Fox brass are pretty bullish on getting more X-Files in their future.

“Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide,” said Fox Broadcasting Company president David Madden in the press release trumpeting the show’s return. “Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”

Also, this promotional image accompanying the news looks rather sharp.

The X-Files reemerged on television in 2016 after a rather lengthy hiatus with a few movies sprinkled in the gap. Viewers had no problem getting back into the series (even with its faults) and today’s promise of further episodes felt sort of expected as a result. More please.
