Back in March, I wrote a brief explainer piece on the bizarro Sundance entry The Greasy Strangler, which centers on a father and son (Michael St. Michaels and Sky Elobar) whose mutual romantic attraction to the same woman coincides with the appearance of the titular character — an “oily, slimy, inhuman maniac who stalks the streets at night and strangles the innocent.” The Jim Hosking-directed, Elijah Wood-produced film has been called “a brutal, stomach-churning cinematic endurance test” (HeyUGuys) and, alternately, “a welcome oasis of filth, depravity and shock” (the Guardian), among other choice descriptions, and guess what? They weren't kidding!
For evidence, look no further than the film's very first teaser trailer, which features more NSFW nudity, gore and truly disgusting scatological humor than you can shake a stick at. Watch this biz in a crowded office at your own peril.
The Greasy Strangler hits theaters and VOD on October 7.
