In June, we were told that Chiwetel Ejiofor would be playing “a partially-villainous character based on Baron Mordo” in Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character. At the D23 Expo in June, it was reported that character was still going to be called Baron Mordo. As fans of the comics know, Baron Mordo was Steven Strange’s main nemesis, but in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that might not totally be the case.
However, Marvel being Marvel, Ejiofor still couldn’t say much about his character, as Entertainment Weekly found out:
“I am doing Doctor Strange, and I’m incredibly excited about it. That’s all I say.”
And that’s that! Well, not really. Ejiofor, who is currently promoting Z For Zachariah, is also allowed to discuss his costars, Cumberbatch — with whom he’s reuniting after starring in 12 Years A Slave — and Tilda Swinton, who is playing the Ancient One. But again, not very much.
“[Cumberbatch is] a good friend of mine. So, it’s gonna be fun. And Tilda Swinton — I haven’t worked with her, but I’m excited to work with her. She’s brilliant.”
And that’s it! Really, that’s basically it. It seems like being “really excited” is the go-to line for everyone starring in this movie since that’s almost exactly what Swinton said when she was discussing her role. If Rachel McAdams ever gets officially on board this ride, bet on her also being “really excited” and absolutely nothing else.
Doctor Strange, directed by Scott Derrickson, is set for Nov. 6, 2016.
