Today is a big day for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Their new movie Sisters finally premieres. Unfortunately, however, they can’t escape remarks that their opening might be overshadowed by another little film coming out today — to which screenwriter Paula Pell says “bring it on.” So, when the Sisters cast visited Seth Meyers Thursday night, they were asked to use Star Wars action figures to make the argument why you should see their movie instead.
Everyone agreeably participated, until they got to Amy Poehler who couldn’t remember her character’s name (despite having “read it three times”) and has a quasi-meltdown — clearly having been pushed to her breaking point — saying that she doesn’t care about Star Wars, and she “never f*cking did!” She then half-heartedly tried to play along, saying that her character’s face is covered up because he’s “so embarrassed that he’s gotta go see Star Wars.” For anyone also *ahem* who might also be feeling ambivalent about the release of the blockbuster sci-fi action flick, Poehler’s rant is cathartic, to say the least.
In summary, go see Sisters. Don’t see Stars Wars. Or maybe, go see Star Wars, but definitely be sure to see Sisters first. Amy Poehler’s sanity depends on it.
