Back in 2012, the world of superhero films was very different. DC was considered the high standard of super heroics thanks to Christopher Nolan‘s Batman trilogy, and Marvel was only just starting to take over the cinematic world. That all changed when The Avengers was released and the tables were turned. Since then, we’ve come close to over saturating the market on superhero films, but they are still attracting high calibers of talent. Anne Hathaway, who portrayed Selina Kyle aka Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, is totally down to return to the DC Universe if they had a place for her, telling Variety:
“I loved that character and I had such a blast playing her,” Hathaway said. “I’m not sure how it would work because I think the Chris Nolan chapter of the Batman story has been wrapped up and I’m part of that, but I love the DC Universe and it would be fun to take a trip back.”
Considering how the DCU has been retconned by Zack Snyder and company (and the ending of Nolan’s film), it doesn’t seem likely that Hathaway’s version of Kyle would have a place in this new iteration of Batman. However, Hathaway bears whoever dons the catsuit next no ill will, because so many talented actresses have gone before her.
“It sort of goes with the territory when you accept it and receive it from the last Catwoman. I was shown such generosity from Halle [Berry] and from Michelle [Pfeiffer], and so I would do that the next time as well.”
Still, it’s nice to know that Hathaway enjoys the occasional fun role since her Oscar win for Les Misérables. It doesn’t all have to be shaved heads, consumption, and sobs.
