You certainly have to give Warner Bros. Animation points for keeping things varied. After delivering the dark, R-rated Batman: The Killing Joke, they’re going in the complete opposite direction with Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, a tribute to the beloved ’60s Adam West TV show.
We already saw a brief teaser for Caped Crusaders, but now Warner Bros. has unleashed a full trailer and damn if it isn’t a swinging good time. It seems Gotham’s greatest villains (Joker, Riddler, Penguin, and Catwoman) have teamed up yet again to launch another pernicious plot, and it’s up to Batman and Robin to foil them. Of course, along the way they end up strapped to a giant TV dinner, and impart some valuable lessons about the dangers of jaywalking.
It definitely looks like Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders is going to be a lot of fun. The original show was a certifiable hoot, but it was also hampered by a minuscule budget. Caped Crusaders looks to deliver all the camp, along with bigger, more exciting action. I just hope we still get a scene where the Dynamic Duo very slowly scales the side of a building while various celebrities pop their heads out of windows.
Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, which features the classic voices of Adam West, Burt Ward and Julie Newmar, arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray on November 1.
