My fiction writing and film production professors told me that if any scene doesn’t move a story along, cut it. The term “editing room floor” is used liberally just for those scenes — the ones that did not progress the story along, or took viewers out of the narrative.
The folks at Screen Rant have created this fancy video that delves into 10 scenes that were cut from their larger bodies due to issues like bad audience test results, and just plain old terrible outcomes.
With films like Kill Bill, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Interstellar highlighted, the price of admission here is the cut scene from Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Not only do we find out the origin of Ahnald’s accent, we get a few funny clips of the man that was the impetus for the Terminator robots. For some reason, I think James Cameron may have had a hand in making sure those scenes did not make it to the final product.
