Kevin Hart is one of the biggest names in comedy, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the biggest names in all of cinema. What do you get when you combine the two? Hopefully a twist on the buddy cop genre that’s waaaaay better than Ride Along, and that will likely surpass projected figures for opening day grosses. (It doesn’t take a Fellini to make a better film than Ride Along.)
Johnson and Hart star in this action-comedy that sees Johnson’s CIA agent team with Hart’s computer-whiz something or other to take on the bad guys and destroy their capabilities of blowing up/tear-gassing/polluting (take your pick) the world. Central Intelligence also stars Amy Ryan (The Wire) and Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad… did I need to tell you that?), which means this film is an amalgamation of two of the best TV dramas of all-time, pro wrestling, and a short man who can deftly sprinkle copious amounts of chuckles. If you remember, the jokes already started during filming when The Rock and Hart held dueling Instagram posts. Also, Hart almost killed Johnson with a chunk of ceiling. That wasn’t too funny… at first.
Central Intelligence will be out in June 2016, which means you’ll have plenty of time to catch up on Aaron Paul crying his way through five seasons of Breaking Bad, and just a few seasons of Ryan dealing with McNulty’s womanizing and drinking. And, of course, the marketing for the film has a slight dick joke.
