If you haven’t by now, go see Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance) or at least read Vince’s review of the thing. It’s being lauded as a technical masterpiece and a frontrunner for awards consideration in the spring.
Fox Searchlight isn’t done promoting yet, though. Here we get the trailer for the fake film within the film featuring Michael Keaton as the fake actor Riggan Thomson. From the description:
#TBT: in 1992, Riggan Thomson makes box office history in BIRDMAN RETURNS. It will be another 4 years before Riggan famously pulls out of BIRDMAN 4 and disappears off the face of the planet until reviving his career on Broadway!
And as Slash Film points out, the trailer is spot on. They embedded the trailer for Batman Returns for comparison’s sake. While the lengths don’t match up, the voice over and on screen action are extremely alike. Also the fake quality of a VHS trailer is thrown in for good measure. See it for yourself.
