Warning: Minor spoilers for the new Ghostbusters ahead.
Paul Feig’s upcoming Ghostbusters reboot may boast an all-new team, but old-school fans hoping to see the wizened original ‘Busters cast are in luck. Basically everybody from the old movies, including Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and yes, Bill Murray himself, are making cameos in the film. Sounds great! The original cast are all legends, and they could do all sorts of creative things with them!
Well, yeah, they could, but don’t get your hopes too high. Sony recently showed off some new Ghostbusters footage to media types at their annual CinemaCon presentation and, as several sources have since reported, this footage included Dan Aykroyd’s cameo. Here’s what the creator of Ghostbusters gets to do in the new movie…
Got a glimpse of Dan Aykroyd's cameo as a cab driver where he says "I ain't afraid of no ghosts." #CinemaCon

I’m absolutely not on board the Ghostbusters haters train — I think the new cast is great, the first trailer was fun, and am keeping an open mind. That said, that is literally the laziest cameo possible. There’s so much more they could have done with him. He could have played a ghost! Or showed up in some vintage ’80s-style Ghostbusters TV ads. Or handed out bracing shots of Crystal Skull Vodka to the new team as they prepare to bust the movie’s big baddie. Something other than just showing up in a cab and stating the series’ tag line.
I sincerely hope Bill Murray isn’t similarly wasted. If a car drives up at one point and Bill Murray just pokes his head out and says “don’t cross the streams,” I honestly don’t even know what I’ll do.
Ghostbusters haunts theaters July 15, 2016.
