It seems unthinkable, considering The Force Awakens made approximately all the money in the world, but there’s something more popular than Star Wars out there: Fifty Shades Darker. The steamy trailer for the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey was viewed 114 million times in the first 24 hours since its release, breaking the previous record set by The Force Awakens‘ 112 million. That’s a shame for two reasons: 1) Star Wars is much better than Fifty Shades of Grey, although the dialogue in both can be equally cringeworthy, and b) the record-holder should be John Wick: Chapter Two. The trailer for 2017’s most important movie starring Keanu Reeves and a badass dog has been out for a couple of hours, and the view count is currently under 100,000. This is simply unacceptable. Guess it’s time to watch the preview 115 million times in a row.
It will be hard for John Wick: Chapter 2 to recapture the magic of the original, which is a nearly perfect action movie, but the trailer looks promising. This time around, our man Wick has been “forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild,” according to the official plot synopsis. He heads to Rome, where “he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers,” including Orange Is the New Black‘s Ruby Rose. Also, Reeves’ The Matrix co-star Laurence Fishburne plays a character named the Bowler King who menacingly holds pigeons.
Fifty Shades Darker can’t compete with that.
