Talk of a movie starring DC Comics’ antihero Lobo has been floating around for a while. Back in early 2012, it was reported that producer Joel Silver was looking to The Main Man’s misadventures into a family-friendly romp starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The Rock even brought in his buddy Bray Peyton (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, San Andreas) to punch up the script and direct. Ultimately though, this version of Lobo just never panned out – probably because a family-friendly version of Lobo is a really terrible idea.
Well, as you may have heard, Deadpool has made a lot of money, and edgy, possibly R-rated superhero movies are the new hotness, so guess what? The Lobo movie is back in business and getting a rewrite. The new script will be written by Jason Fuchs, who also wrote Wonder Woman for Warner Bros. Word is Fuchs is completely scrapping earlier drafts of the script and starting entirely from scratch, which is probably a good call.
No word on if The Rock is still interested in playing Lobo, although it seems unlikely since he’s since signed up to play Black Adam in the Shazam movie. Then again, Shazam also seems to be somewhat up in the air, so who knows what could happen?
What do you bastiches think? Into the idea of a Lobo movie? Should the movie be a full-on R-rated spectacle, or is some sort of other approach in order?
