Miles Teller is currently making the promotional rounds for his new film War Dogs, in which he stars with Jonah Hill in the true story of two 20-something wannabe arms dealers who bullsh*tted their way to success. Had it not been for Shia LaBeouf’s bizarre Broadway meltdown, Teller and Hill may have never ended up in the Todd Phillips-directed film, but one man’s removed shoelaces are another man’s opportunity. As is the case with any media appearance, it isn’t just about War Dogs for Teller, whose job on a popular young adult franchise is now in jeopardy.
It was revealed last month that the Divergent franchise will be adjusting strategies for the final installment in the wake of Allegiant’s poor box office results. Instead of the fourth film, Ascendant, hitting the big screen for a grand finale, Lionsgate will make it a television movie, a decision that didn’t sit well with the franchise’s star, Shailene Woodley. While Teller’s character isn’t as prominent as Woodley’s Tris, his name is still considerable star power, and now he has revealed that he doesn’t even know if he will be a part of Ascendant.
“I’ve talked to nobody,” Teller said. “I found out 20 minutes before Variety printed it.”
“When we all signed on for the first one we had every intention of finishing it theatrically,” he said. “We signed on for x amount of movies and you take that all into consideration. We wanted to see that storyline finish. You know, it’s moving into a different format. So who knows?”
“We all really enjoyed that time we spent together and those characters,” he added. (Via Variety)
If I’m a betting man, I’m putting a shiny nickel on the cast of Ascendant looking considerably different than it did in Allegiant. And that’s not just referring to Teller’s totally radical blond hair, which he tells ABC News he is sporting for another role, as the lone survivor in a film about the Granite Mountain Hotshots.
“Well you get it, as a fellow blonde,” Teller, 29, told “GMA” co-anchor Lara Spencer. “I’m doing a movie right now about the Granite Mountain Hotshots. They were involved in the Yarnell Hill Fire incident three years ago where 19 of the 20 firefighters passed away. I’m playing the lone survivor and he’s got blonde hair so I said, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’”
