The Oscars is the biggest awards show of the year, so naturally we can all expect some special guests making an appearance to stun a Hollywood audience that’s seen it all. But the Academy went to another level this year, somehow tracking down C-3P0, R2-D2 and most impressively, BB-8 and putting them on the big stage in L.A. Some major, intergalactic hoops were gone through to pay off a meta John Williams joke. Bravo.
Though the voice was clearly Anthony Daniels’, it was probably this guy under the gold metal known as C-3PO’s skin.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was nominated for 5 Academy Awards this year, but so far the film has come up short, getting beaten by in every category Mad Max: Fury Road in every category so far.
One remains: John Williams is nominated for Best Original Score for his Force Awakens work. Will the three droids end up being a good luck charm for Williams tonight? He’s has been nominated for 50 Academy Awards, winning only 5 times. His third Academy Award was for the Star Wars: A New Hope score. He hasn’t won since his work for Schindler’s List in 1993. Maybe there’s some Star Wars magic brewing.
