Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, Lost River, starring Eva Mendes, Matt Smith, and Christina Hendricks, debuted at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. It went … poorly. Yes, let’s go with “poorly.” I believe that is the appropriate word to use when a film inspires boos from the audience and tweets like this from critics in attendance:
If a $200 haircut and $900 shades were given lots of money to defecate on Detroit, the result would be Ryan Gosling's directing debut.

All of which makes the following announcement about the film substantially less surprising than it would have been back when it was brought to Cannes: Lost River will not get a theatrical release. At all. Ever. Instead, Warner Bros. will make it available for Video On Demand next April. Tough break for Baby Goose.
