Sharlto Copley Says He’s Not In Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ Movie ‘At The Moment’

From Johnny Depp and Tim Burton to Brad Pitt and David Fincher, if there’s one thing Hollywood’s built on, it’s the magical relationship that exists between actor and director. Recently, one of the most prominent examples has been the relationship seen between director Neill Blomkamp and actor Sharlto Copley. Since District 9, Copley has starred in every Blomkamp film, even Chappie, for which he did the robot’s motion capture and voice. Many are wondering now about a potential appearance in Blomkamp’s recently confirmed Alien film.

From Blastr:

“We’ve had the conversation,” he said with a smile in his voice, “But it’s the familiar conversation with Neill every time he ends a movie where he tells me he wants to put me in the next one but he can’t because, practically, it doesn’t make sense to do all of his movies with me. At some point, he has to go away and then we’ll return and do something which I fully understand. I never expected to be in all his films for two seconds.”

Upon returning to the original question, Copley said:

“At the moment, no. I’m not in the Aliens [sequel]. But I’m super-excited he’s doing it, and it’s surreal to get to see him do something with a franchise that for him and I was one of our favorite all-time franchises.”

There you go. For the moment, Copley hasn’t been signed on for the next Alien movie. However, the blockbuster’s still in the early stages of pre-production, so that can always change at a moment’s notice. The biggest thing that will hinder it, though, is Copley’s commitment to Powers, which will, in all likelihood, get picked up for another season within a matter of weeks, and that could conflict with the shooting schedule of a new Alien.
