Spider-Man — no, not that Spider-Man, or that Spider-Man, or that Spider-Man, but this Spider-Man — finally made his debut in the new trailer for Captain America: Civil War. It’s weird to say that a man in a spider costume looks good, but Tom Holland — who as far as we know doesn’t belong to a posse dedicated to female genitalia — looks great in a spider costume.
Ever the good company man, Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn has already proclaimed Holland the best Spider-Man to date. “I think @TomHolland1996 is the best Spidey/Peter Parker ever by a country mile,” Gunn tweeted. When someone asked, “is his performance more closer to Tobey or Andrew or entirely different?” the director replied, “It’s his own thing. He is to Spidey as Downey is to Iron Man, Ledger was to the Joker, Pratt is to Star-Lord.” (That’s a very Marvel way of burning Jared Leto’s Hot Topic Joker — it’s cloaked in a joyful compliment; meanwhile, the DC version of Gunn’s tweet would be strapping a dead rat to a carrier pigeon.)

As for the other actors to play the web-slinger, Andrew Garfield sounds relieved that he’s done slipping into that red-and-blue costume, while Tobey Maguire is in denial.
Sure you will, Tobey. Sure you will.
