Ready for some good news right meow? Super Troopers 2 is happening.
We first reported on the sequel to 2001’s cult classic Super Troopers back in 2013, but nothing came of it until last year, when Broken Lizard broke a crowdfunding record by earning $4.4 million. (The original only cost $1.2 million — where’s that money going to? “Bigger stunts,” “more full-frontal Farva,” “diamonds on the soles of our shoes,” and “Kate Upton.”) The cast, including Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, and Steve Lemme, has been taking photos from the set, but shooting didn’t begin until today.
When asked why Super Troopers 2 took so long, director Chandrasekhar, who’s also been behind the camera for Community and New Girl, explained, “We’ve always wanted to make a sequel… but first, we also wanted to run from a killer on an island resort and chug beers against Germans. After that, we had to get permission from the studio, write an awesome script, and then wait for lawyers to schedule a sh*tload of conference calls.” The script might be “awesome,” but it’s far from complete. Broken Lizard is still accepting Indiegogo donations — if they reach $4.75 million, Super Troopers 2 will have a “kickass chase scene,” and if they hit a cool $5 million, Brian Cox will return as Captain John O’Hagen. He’ll pistol-whip anyone who doesn’t pony up.
Rest assured your money is going to a good place: facial hair maintenance.
