Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service was easily one of the bigger surprise hits of 2015, scoring positive reviews from critics across the board and raking in over 400 million dollars internationally on just an $80 million budget (which by today’s blockbuster standards is basically peanuts). Based on the comic book created by Kick-Ass writer Mark Millar and Watchmen artist Dave Gibbons, a Kingsman sequel was all but green lit from the moment it turned a profit and started production back in May.
So far, all we know about the plot of Kingsman: The Golden Circle is that it takes place in the good ol’ U.S. of A, may or may not bring back Colin Firth’s Harry Hart from the dead, and if the stellar concept art is to be believed, will feature some pretty incredible set pieces to boot. If that wasn’t already worth the price of repeated admissions, then allow Kingsman star Taron Egerton to put any doubts you may have about The Golden Circle to rest.
Speaking with EW at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, Egerton could not speak highly enough of the upcoming sequel, and more specifically, it’s insanely stacked cast.
Doing Kingsman is such hard work. It’s so physical and demanding. It’s brilliant and you don’t resent a moment of it because I believe [director] Matthew Vaughn is an incredible director and I have every faith it’s going to be a great movie. It’s so challenging. Luckily, you’re surrounded by an incredible team. The best stuntmen in the world. The cast is incredible. The cast in the sequel is … it’s insanity who I’ve acted opposite in the past six months. It was tough, but it’s going to be incredible.
That cast he’s referring to? Everyone from Julianne Moore (who will be playing the film’s “incredibly-written” villain) and Halle Berry to Channing Tatum, The Dude, and The Red Viper himself, Pedro Pascal.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is scheduled to hit theaters June 16, 2017.
