Back when we predicted Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” would be the song of the summah summer, we didn’t have a full understanding of just how epidemic this earworm would prove to be. It’s inspired image parodies, Arrested Development T-shirts, and Cookie Monsters. Covers of the song are extensive. Some of the cover songs we’ve posted here so far incorporate a singing corgi, death metal, Third Eye Blind, Jimmy Fallon and the Roots, the Harvard Crimson, fun., Tom Brady, and the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders. Not all of those things at the same time, mind you, but wouldn’t that be awesome?
“Call Me Maybe” is everywhere. Its lyrics are going to be burned into the surface of the moon by our grandchildren if we don’t stop this scourge soon. Thankfully, Glove and Boots are here with a potential solution. They previously raised awareness of Vertical Video Syndrome and did hilarious playthroughs of classic video games. Now their gorilla friend has done his own version of the song which mashes up several viral video parodies together with the gorilla’s new lyrics for the song. His lyrics sum up my own feelings for this song. “Meh.”
At the end of the video, they give an awesome suggestion for how to get this earworm out of your head. We’re saved! Thank you, gorilla. You’re my hero. I’m sorry for all the times I called your people “monkeys”.
