On Tuesday night, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend were in Hammersmith (London, for us Yanks) for a screening of the documentary, Sensation: The Story of The Who’s Tommy, and the iconic guitarist dropped a little tidbit of important information about the band’s future. According to Townshend, when he and Daltrey, the remaining founding members of the band, celebrate The Who’s 50th anniversary in 2015, they’ll do so with one last big world tour, before they ultimately close the curtains for the final time.
Townshend said: “For the 50th anniversary we’ll tour the world. It’ll be the last big one for us. There are still plenty of places we’ve not played. It would be good to go to eastern Europe and places that haven’t heard us play all the old hits.” (Via the London Evening Standard)
I guess it’s important to note that he said that this will be the “last big one” and that obviously leaves the door open for some special concert events; however, if you want to get a glimpse of the rockin’ old men one last time in or near your city, then you should probably clear every single day of your calendar in 2015. That means no Avengers sequel, no Star Wars Episode VII and no birthdays or holidays. Clear it all and wait patiently.
The good news is that both Townshend and Daltrey are apparently working on solo albums before 2015, so that should help diehard fans with the wait. But it still means that the more casual fans only have two years left to mistakenly claim the name of “Baba O’Riley” is “Teenage Wasteland” before it will lose its charm*.
*Just kidding, it never had charm.
