The amount of love that Carly Rae Jepsen and Skylar Spence received (or, more accurately, didn’t) in 2015 is one of the year’s greatest travesties. I assume a copy of Jepsen’s Emotion and Spence’s Prom King is part of The Donald’s plan to “Make America Great Again” — and if it isn’t, why bother?
With a remix of “Your Type,” the duo bundled all of their critical (Spence) and commercial (Carly) neglect into one place to be more easily ignored. But music fans would be wise to give the track a listen, as Spence injects one of the year’s greatest slow-burners with a bit of upbeat, warped disco that recalls Spence’s vaporwave origins as Saint Pepsi.
For more of Carly Rae Jepsen being awesome, watch her version of “Last Christmas” curbstomp all other versions that came before it. Then, run away with her using her interactive video. To counteract how bad you are going to feel about not buying a copy of Emotion once you do that, look at all the Carly love in our Best Albums of 2015 and Best Singles of 2015 lists Skylar still got the short end of things in, though. He didn’t even turn up in our list specifically designed to highlight criminally underrated albums.
