If you haven’t been keeping up with rap beef, then you should know that Joe Budden released a blistering diss track aimed at Drake, and left a few shots in the chamber for Meek Mill. Titled “Making a Murderer (Part 1),” Budden chops away at Aubrey with lines like: “You made me proud, lad, but it seems my child mad/ With all the clout that he grabbed, it’s still doubts from his dad,” which is a jab at Drake’s confession that his father didn’t think he could sing and rap at the same time.
Budden explained to Pitchfork:
I’m not addressing Drake, or addressing Meek because I am malicious toward either of them or I wish either one of them harm or ill will. I am celebrating hip-hop. I want the people who I deem — I want the people who are talented to be talented.
On his I’ll Name This Podcast Later show Thursday night, Budden explained a little bit more about why he dissed Drake and Meek while still leaving room for objective interpretation (i.e. he danced around the subject a lot.) Particularly, when confronted with the idea or notion that anyone could derail his swag with a response track, Budden said, “There’s nothing anyone can do to end my career.”
“This is what I know… Drake was dissing me and Puff, or addressing,” Budden said in an attempt to reveal the backstory to the Drake diss. “That’s a fact. I don’t care about the people who don’t know. I don’t care. I did my due diligence. There was a record floating, people heard the record, we know what was said on that record.”
Budden also explained that he wasn’t dissing Jay Z in the second verse of the track, so there’s that.
