All things considered, it certainly looks like Kendrick Lamar is headed towards a huge Grammy night this Sunday, and now news has surfaced that he’s going to be starting the night off with a bang. E News reports Kendrick is set to open the Grammys with his performance, and he’s bringing a few big names along for the ride in Dave Chappelle and U2.
U2 had previously been announced as a performer, and its unclear if they’ll hit the stage by themselves again later, but Kendrick is utilizing the legendary band for his set, so it’s a sure bet he’ll probably perform a rendition of their fiery DAMN cut “XXX.” Chappelle involvement is a little harder to figure out, but his relationship with hip-hop runs deep, and if Kendrick is leaning on him for a contribution you can rest assured they have something major planned.
For Kendrick, it should be the start of a big night, as his seven nominations are second only to Jay-Z’s eight, and he’s up for the night’s biggest awards, Album of the Year and Record of the Year. Despite the Grammys history of neglecting rap, Kendrick’s presence is going to be impossible to ignore Sunday night, and he might have the trophies to show for it by the time it’s all said and done.
