This year’s halftime event at Super Bowl 50 may not have a fetching left shark on the bill, but it will have Coldplay as the main attraction. While some may think that’s not too exciting, there will be several guest stars on the menu as well. Beyoncé will bring some heat as a guest performer (along with a rumored stint by Bruno Mars because “Uptown Funk” may be obligatory). Now the NFL has dropped some official news on who will sing the national anthem. The coveted spot has gone to Lady Gaga:
The NFL told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Gaga will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, where the Carolina Panthers will take on the Denver Broncos.
Academy Award winning actress Marlee Matlin will perform in American Sign Language during the national anthem.
Altogether, that’s quite a musical slate for the evening. Some folks weren’t thrilled with the Coldplay announcement, but at least there’s variety on tap for the weekend. Besides, Gaga’s musical cred has grown after she dropped her usual shock tactics, and she wowed at the Oscars last year with a performance of “The Sound Of Music.” She’s also up for Best Original Song at next year’s Oscars for “Til It Happens To You” and is also featured in a David Bowie tribute. A busy few weeks ahead for the Mother Monster.
