Mos Def Filmed Himself Being Force-Fed To Protest Guantánamo Detainees Being Force-Fed During Ramadan

Ramadan begins tonight, and dozens of prisoners will be force fed by guards at Guantánamo Bay, not only because fasting is one aspect of celebrating the holy month, but because, according to the Guardian, “the hunger strike was launched in February, as a protest against the legal limbo in which many of the 166 detainees at Guantánamo find themselves and against President Obama’s failure to honor his 2008 promise to close the camp.”

Rapper Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, along with Human Rights organization Reprieve, filmed what it’s like to undergo the procedure, “through tubes directly into the stomachs of detainees.” It’s somehow more upsetting than his role in Carmen: A Hip Hopera.

If you don’t have time to watch the video, here’s a recap in three screengrabs…
