At the risk of sounding hipster-y, there’s a good chance you’ve never heard of the Chicago-based band, Scattered Trees. That’s okay, because up until a few weeks ago, I hadn’t either. But an indie music-savvy friend turned me onto them recently and today I was reminded of the band when Consequence of Sound did a post on their new video for “Sympathy,” which they termed “a haunting and surreal experience with imagery reminiscent of Werner Herzog’s tale of a soldier’s descent into sheer madness, Aguirre, the Wrath of God.”
Since we’re a little obsessed with Game Of Thrones around these parts, the medieval scenery and imagery in the video — directed by Scattered Trees guitarist/keyboardist J.M. Harper — of course made the show immediately spring to mind. And for what it’s worth, the song itself is pretty damn good. Scattered Trees is currently touring and will playing at Brooklyn Bowl in NYC on Wednesday night.
