This marks the 20th anniversary since the breakout of the purveyors of Girl Power themselves, the Spice Girls. It was in 1996 that their debut album, Spice, which hosted the massive hits “Wannabe” and “Say You’ll Be There” to name a few, was released and as such, there are some rumors and murmurings stating that the Spice Girls may once again reunite to perform. It wouldn’t be their first reunion since their heyday, as the quintet came together in 2007 to give those who grew up in the ‘90s a real thrill. Alas, if they do reunite, they will be missing one of their members.
Geri Horner (née Halliwell), also known as Ginger Spice, was interviewed by the BBC recently, and informed all the Spice Girls fans out there that if and when this (currently hypothetical) tour happens, Victoria Beckham, also known as Posh Spice, will not be joining them. While she was on the last reunion tour, Posh said in 2015 that she has no intention of ever touring with the band that made her famous again. The allure of girl power only goes so far.
Sure, if Axl Rose and Slash can come back together, anything is possible, but all you Posh fanatics out there better not get your hopes up. While it may be disappointing, Beckham is a 41-year-old mother of four, and so maybe you can’t blame her for not wanting to dance around to “Spice Up Your Life” anymore.
Besides, as long as Scary Spice, the best Spice Girl, is there, what do we really have to complain about?
