Lupe Fiasco’s new track “Pick up the Phone” is perhaps a little unlikely, which makes it accurate for where Lu’s at right now. The LASERS-like tune centers around a relationship that’s reached a point where the warm feelings aren’t being reciprocated and he’s left exposed.
“No, don’t tell me that you care
When I know you’re standing there
I left the story of my life on your answering machine
My tears run off your shoes”
It’s still unclear which project “Pick up the Phone” will land — either DROGAS, DROGAS light, SKULLS or maybe none of the above. Lupe threw his fans for a loop days ago on Twitter when he talked about his lack of care for music and his release plans for one of the trio of albums. “Love rap but don’t give a f*ck about music or anything that comes with it,” he wrote. Later, he followed up another message that read with “Decided Skulls is just gonna be a live performance only album. Not handing my baby to these E-Savages.”
Stream the song below and get it for free over on Lupe’s site. Which anyone who likes it should probably do while they can. There’s no telling how much longer Lu’s going to be around if we’re judging him by his own words.
