I’m no rapper (outside of my home), but I would imagine it’s tough to admit to yourself when you’ve been washed by another rapper. I think it would require deep soul-searching and honesty that one might prepped to deal with it. However, Meek Mill is courageous enough to look in the mirror and handle a truth what everyone except a few of his diehard fans will admit: “Back To Back” was one helluva diss record.
In a preview for an interview with hip-hop beef instigator Taxstone set to go live on Monday, Meek admits that Drake’s diss was hot, but by no means did he get “bodied by a singing n*gga.” Coming from a rap battling background, Meek feels Drake’s diss lacked the headshots Nas and Jay Z’s diss records had and had no idea “Back To Back” would end up so hyped.
“I didn’t think it was no sh*t that people was gon be like, ‘You got killed!’ I thought it was hot,” Meek admitted while driving Tax around in his $300,000 Wraith. “I wasn’t thinking that it was no sh*t that was gon—like when we shoot at n*ggas, you gotta shoot at n*ggas though the heart. You gotta wake up and look in the mirror and what the n*gga told you was some shit about yourself that you can’t even deal with it.”
Continuing with the shooting metaphor, Tax said it was the hip-hop/pop beat of “Back To Back” that was the shot that ended Meek. However, as a battle rapper, Meek doesn’t see it that way, counter-pointing, “but when Nas and Jay Z battle, them n*ggas was hitting at each other. They trying to hit you in your head.”
Now why did Meek wait about fifty ‘leven days and umpteen hours to respond?” We’ll have to wait until Monday for that answer.
