“It’s a dirty dark secret in the black community, one of the reasons we’re never going to be successful as a whole is because of other black people.” ~Charles Barkley
The outspoken Barkley made those comments during a radio interview with Anthony Gargano and Rob Ellis of CBS radio Philly. The topic was the recent hullabaloo about Russell Wilson’s status as a black person. In short, some of his Seahawks teammates reportedly said he wasn’t “black enough.”
There is also a strictly football issue here with Wilson. I’m told he doesn’t always take the blame with teammates for mistakes he makes. In Wilson’s mind, a bad throw isn’t always his fault.
There is also an element of race that needs to be discussed. My feeling on this—and it’s backed up by several interviews with Seahawks players—is that some of the black players think Wilson isn’t black enough.
Yes, reminder, this is 2014 and we’re talking about how “black” someone is. Thankfully the level-headed Barkley’s here to shut all those idiots up.
“There are a lot of black people who are unintelligent, who don’t have success. It’s best to knock a successful black person down because they’re intelligent, they speak well, they do well in school and they’re successful. It’s just typical B.S. that goes on when you’re a black man.”
