Holy cow, a lot has gone down in this whole Jon Jones Hit and Run situation. First, the UFC light heavyweight champion was wanted for questioning as a suspect in a hit and run accident. Then, Jon allegedly fled his car on foot, returned to grab a handful of cash, and a marijuana pipe was found in the car.
On Monday, the Albuquerque police issued an arrest warrant for Jones, charging him with “Leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injuries”, which is a felony charge.
From the affidavit, off-duty officer Sullivan realized who was involved:
“I watch UFC all the time, I know what Jon Jones looks like.”
According to local Albuquerque news outlet, KOAT, the injured woman, Vanessa Sonnenberg stated:
“I kind of freaked out and I was just more upset, you know, that he couldn’t at least stayed and at least said, ‘I’m sorry’ or something.”
Later on Monday night, Jones apparently turned himself in:
UFC fighter Jon Jones has been booked into Bernalillo County MDC without incident.
— Albuquerque Police Department (@ABQPOLICE) April 28, 2015
According to the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center’s booking information, Jon’s bail is set at $2,500 and is cash-only. After a few hours in police custody, it appears Jones has posted bail, as he is now listed under the MDC’s release list.
As for Jon’s employers, there isn’t much from the UFC or Reebok.
UFC has acknowledged that Jones is in custody & they tell me, as of right now, they don't expect to provide any further statements tonight.
