By now, you’ve probably heard someone joke about the Chicago Cubs winning the 2015 World Series because it was predicted in Back To The Future Part II. Sure, the Cubs beat Miami in the movie, and there’s no way that can happen in the 2015 World Series, but that hasn’t stopped people from joking around about how a movie from 1989 may end up “predicting” the World Series winner 26 years later.
Still, the movie and the Cubs’ postseason run are going to be tied together. So much so that one of the stars from the film wants to throw out a first pitch if the Cubbies make the World Series. Christopher Lloyd, who played Dr. Emmett Brown in all of the Back To The Future movies, said it would be fun if Chicago let him throw out a pitch, as long as they got there first.
One of the main plot points for Back to the Future: Part II is Marty getting the idea to gamble in the past once he learns the Cubs win the World Series in 2015. And, with the Cubs moving on to National League Championship Series on Tuesday, that might just happen.
“I didn’t even remember about the Cubs until someone brought it up a few days ago,” Lloyd says.
If Chicago makes it to the World Series, Lloyd said it would fun to throw out the first pitch. “Maybe it’ll happen. We’ll see,” he says. “They got to get there first.”
Chicago needs to get through the New York Mets first, but if they make it all the way perhaps Lloyd will get his wish. No matter what, he really should put some money on the Cubs.
