Les Miles apparently made it be known that LSU’s game against Texas A&M on Saturday would be his final game as coach of the Tigers, according to nola.com.
Although Miles never came out officially and said he was fired, he reportedly made it clear to members of the LSU Gridiron Club on Friday that his days were numbered, via nola.com.
“He didn’t use those words but he made it clear that Saturday is his last game,” one Gridiron club member said. Miles regularly speaks to the club at lunch on Fridays before all home games.
“He said , ‘We’re a second family to him and he’s going to miss us, he appreciates his real friends, and then he told us good bye,'” the source said. “It was very emotional but in control.”
Miles has been the LSU head coach since 2005. He led the Tigers to seven double-digit winning seasons, two BCS National Championship games, and the 2007 national title. With jobs like USC, Miami, and Texas potentially opening up one would have to imagine that the 62-year-old will be a candidate to land another high profile college coaching job should LSU officially let him go.
This year, LSU is 7-3 and currently unranked in the playoff committee’s Top 25 after losing three straight.
UPDATE: Les Miles has denied the reports that he indicated Saturday would be his final game as LSU coach, according to the team’s Twitter page.
Contrary to media reports, #LSU coach Les Miles has not resigned nor did he indicate he was resigning when speaking to booster group today.
