While soccer has its negative aspects (games can be too defensively focused and diving and embellishment are a real problem), one thing soccer has going for it is its celebrations. Soccer players know how to celebrate. One soccer player in particular has perhaps pulled off the greatest celebration ever. It makes Cam Newton’s dabbing look like Barry Sanders handing the ball to the official.
The player in question seems to be a member of Norrby IF, a mid-tier Swedish club who currently plays in the third level of Swedish soccer. Needless to say, this is probably the most exciting thing to ever happen to the organization. This gentleman scored a goal. It’s a pretty nice goal, though nothing amazing. However, he was quite excited to score, and that’s where things get fun.
The guy makes a beeline to the stands, takes a seat, and then applauds for himself like a fan. It wasn’t hard, since the stands seem to be pretty much empty. Nevertheless, it’s a great celebration. Imagine J.R. Smith hitting a three and then taking a seat in the crowd. It would be even better if a hockey player did that, although the difficulty level might be too high.
Alas, the referee was not as amused by this soccer player’s actions. He gave him a yellow card, and apparently he was already on a yellow because he was then shown a red. Yes, this celebration led to the player being ejected. Nobody will argue that it wasn’t worth it. He put Norrby IF on the map. He is now the greatest legend in the history of the third level of Swedish soccer.
