It’ll cost you $60,000 if you want your horse to mate with the father of American Pharoah, this year’s Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner. The father, Pioneer of the Nile, has been on the mating market since 2010. The mating price five years ago was only $17,500.
A representative of Pioneer of the Nile’s owner said the requests have gone through the roof since American Pharoah won this year’s Kentucky Derby.
“He was busy before. His babies were hitting the ground running. But we haven’t experienced anything like this. Not even close.”
I can’t imagine what the price will be if American Pharoah wins the Belmont Stakes and becomes the first Triple Crown winner since 1978.
