The in-state rivalry between Kansas and Kansas State can get quite heated, but Kansas coach Bill Self believes one of his players crossed the line. In the waning moments of Jayhawks’ 77-59 win over the Wildcats on Wednesday night, junior guard Brannen Greene threw down a completely unnecessary dunk as time expired:

Self was not pleased. In his post game comments, the coach derided Greene’s actions and issued an apology to the entire Kansas State institution:
“I’d like to apologize to the K-State team, and their program, coaches, players, for the unsportsmanlike act that one of our players did at the end of the game that was totally classless. I guarantee it’ll never happen again.”
Self expanded on his feelings during a radio interview after the game:
“Brannen Greene, we’ve put up with him doing some stuff in the past, but that was probably the biggest dick move I’ve ever had a player do during a game,” Self said. “To dunk the ball like that when the other team — even their players are going, ‘How disrespectful to the game.’
“It certainly showed unbelievably poor sportsmanship.”
Self’s rhetoric seems to imply that he’s had repeated issue with Greene in the past. A head coach at a high profile Division I program doesn’t normally lash out against a player in front of the media. Early in the season, Green was suspended six games for arguing about playing time. This could be a tipping point in his Kansas career.
