Just a week before the start of the season, the San Francisco 49ers will have to look for a new fullback. Bruce Miller, who’s been with the team since he was drafted in 2011, was arrested on Monday morning for assault after he punched a 70-year-old man in the face. The details of the event, as reported by KTVU, somehow make the incident look even worse for Miller.
Miller attempted to check into the Fisherman’s Wharf Marriott on Sunday night after reportedly getting “hammered” at a nearby restaurant, only to be told the hotel was full and no rooms were available. Miller returned in the early hours of Monday morning and knocked on the door of a room in the hotel. A male guest inside informed Miller that he had the wrong room, and the 6’1, 254-lb football player responded by attacking the guest and barging into the room. The guest’s 70-year-old father attempted to step in, and Miller punched him in the face.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital for their injuries, which in the father’s case included facial fractures. The 49ers released a statement regarding the incident, which read in part: “The San Francisco 49ers organization is aware of the media report regarding Bruce Miller. We are gathering the relevant facts of this matter and will continue to monitor the situation.”
Just a short time later, the 49ers made a move.

Miller pleaded no contest to a charge of disturbing the peace earlier this year after being arrested for shoving his wife to the ground and smashing her phone, and now that he’s facing charges for assault, the Niners had no problem parting ways with him.
