Washington Nationals’ star Bryce Harper is no stranger to pop culture, and he’s never been afraid to show it. The right fielder was pictured taking batting practice before a decisive Game 5 against the Dodgers with a bat that had a stamp of the late, great Harambe, the Cincinnati Zoo gorilla tragically shot to death last May after a child fell into his enclosure.
Now, some would say that Harambe memes have had their summer of fun and should be quietly shown the door, but if there’s anyone that can keep something cool, it’s Harper. We can all recall the time he was the king of keeping things 100, and if this gets a similar reaction, he’ll continue his reign of being simultaneously the most loved and hated player in the league.
Frankly, we say all neutral fans should cheer for the Nationals just to see what else Harper’s stamp/stencil guy can come up with for the rest of the playoffs. Stamp/stencil guy: if you’re reading this, get on the Ken Bone image post-haste. It’ll even match the Nationals’ colors!
Of course, Bone’s already started selling out, so he’s only got a couple more days on the shelf before it’s not fun anymore. Then again, Bryce is so dang cool he could probably pull off the Ken Bone bat sarcastically and still come off awesome. The guy can’t not be cool.
