Hue Jackson has been hired to coach the Cleveland Browns, and that means the end of Johnny Manziel’s time with the team, according to ESPN.
At his hiring press conference Wednesday, Jackson said he needs to watch tape and get to know Manziel personally before making any decisions. But sources told ESPN a decision on Manziel has already been made.
According to a source close to the situation, the topic of Manziel was discussed at length in meetings between Jackson and Browns ownership. In those discussions, Jackson indicated that he would prefer the organization move on from Manziel if he were to become coach, and he was told that would not be a problem.
This all stems from reports that Manziel skipped the Browns’ final game this season and went to Las Vegas instead of being examined for a previously diagnosed concussion. Manziel was potentially auditioning for a new team during the season anyway. He had his fair share of moments to remember this season.
It also stems from Manziel not being very good at NFL football (at least not right now).
In 15 games (eight starts) since he was selected with the 22nd pick in the 2014 draft, Manziel has completed 57 percent of his passes for 1,675 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner at Texas A&M rushed for 230 yards on 37 carries in 2015.
There’s still a lot of potential there, as Manziel is only 23 years old, but if the Browns have grown tired of your antics and losing ways, that should be a wake-up call.
