Conor McGregor may talk a good deal about how much he’s “changing the game,” but damn it if he isn’t backing it up.
Ahead of his UFC 202 rematch with Nate Diaz tonight, the Nevada Athletic Commission released the salary information for the card earlier today, and wouldn’t you know it, “Mystic Mac” will be taking home a ridiculous payday of 3 million dollars, win-or-lose. According to MMAFighting’s Marc Raimondi, that’s higher than any UFC fighter has ever earned for a single performance.
Brock Lesnar made the previous record of $2.5 million disclosed at UFC 200 last month. McGregor had the record before that, the first $1 million purse in UFC history at UFC 196 in March.
Not bad for a guy who Brock Lesnar “takes bigger sh*ts than,” if you ask me.
As for Diaz, well, he’ll be taking home a cool $2 million for his troubles, which is a solid step up from the 15k/15k he was making just a few years ago. I guess the guy’s a needle-mover after all, eh Dana?
Co-main eventers Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira will be making $135,000 to show (and another $135,000 if he wins) and $65,000/$65,000, respectively, and lightweight/now welterweight staple Donald Cerrone’s purse is set at $85,000 to show and $85,000 to win. Not a bad night all around, all things considered, unless you happen to be in the 99.9% of people who wouldn’t let “Rumble” Johnson punch you in the face for all the gold in the world. Money’s no good to dead men, as they say.
