UFC president Dana White sat down with America’s Pre Game Show on Fox Sports 1 to talk about Jon Jones’ positive test for cocaine. Here are just some of the highlights.
– Dana was initially shocked, saying “you worry about the person first.”
– Dana spoke with Jon before he went into rehab, says “he was in a good place.”
– No thoughts to postpone the fight, because Jon was healthy, and it wasn’t for PEDs—though if a person is doing cocaine during a training camp, there’s a problem.
– Cormier wasn’t informed “because he didn’t need to be.”
– If Jones tested positive for PEDs, everything would have been shut down.
– Jones had the right to fight.
– Jon was evaluated by doctors leading up to the fight and was cleared to go.
– “The last thing you worry about in a situation like this is his image.”
– The people who do random drug tests made a mistake by testing him for recreational, street drugs. Nevada Athletic Commission says results are open to the public.
– UFC follows the lead of the NSAC, which is more concerned with PEDs.
– Dana is more worried about Jon Jones the human being, not the image of the sport
I wonder if Dana’s tone will change if Jon’s in-competition tests come back positive for anything, but that bridge will get crossed if it comes to it.
