David Letterman sure seems to be enjoying retirement these days. Ever since leaving his spot from behind the Late Show desk last May, the 69-year-old (nice) has grown a beard and has done pretty much whatever the hell he wants.
Letterman grew up in Indianapolis and is a big-time IndyCar racing fan. As part-owner of the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team, he’s on hand for this weekend’s Indianapolis 500 festivities in Speedway. It appears he made sure to drink in more than just the atmosphere at the big race.
While stopping by ESPN’s SportsCenter set on Saturday morning, Letterman proudly proclaimed, “by the way, I’m drunk now” in the most casual way possible. We certainly have no reason to doubt him and, in all likelihood, there were approximately zero people surprised at this development. Letterman seemingly ran out of f**ks to give a long time ago — well before he entered the retirement stage of his life.
Many, many people were saddened when he chose to leave late night television a year ago, and for good reason. He was one of the most enjoyable mainstays in network television, but thankfully Retired Letterman has been every bit as much a lovable lug as the guy behind the desk. Now, he’s basically the definition of #RetirementGoals.
