Floyd Mayweather is the undisputed king of pay-per-view, and he’s flaunting his crown once again on social media with a photo of a check from his August superfight against Conor McGregor. Mayweather TKO’d the UFC lightweight champion in the 10th round of their fight, and wasn’t shy about boasting he made over $300 million off the fight. Mayweather Promotions may have earned that much, but the check he basically cut himself was for a paltry $100 million. Take a look:
“Some say there’s a difference between being smart and intelligent,” Mayweather wrote on Instagram. “Everyone knows that common sense isn’t so common, but when it comes to being wise beyond years it’s proven I’ve got the Midas touch.”
“It’s simple math, being 50-0 lets you know I READ my opponents just as clear as you can READ this $100,000,000 check. I stay getting checks like this, I will always have the last laugh!”
We don’t know if they’re laughing, but we’re sure the IRS is at least pleased that Mayweather can now afford to pay back the $22 million he still owed from his last megafight with Manny Pacquiao in 2015. Unlike multinational conglomerates, it’s harder for athletes like Floyd to shift around the big lump sums he makes off his fights, so he’ll probably have to shell out another substantial part of that $100 million to the taxman.
That’s led to some speculating that Mayweather might not be done fighting like he claims, and there were even some preliminary talks on Floyd following through on his threat to step into the Octagon for a rematch with Conor McGregor. Maybe Mayweather should cut down on his luxury car fleet or expensive haircut habits, but who are we fooling? That’s not going to happen, and we’d love to see Floyd in the UFC.
