Former UFC Champ Carla Esparza Claims Jessica Aguilar Is On PEDs

Carla Esparza, the former UFC Strawweight Champion, was on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour on Monday, and it became apparent that she had one issue on her mind, current World Series of Fighting strawweight champion and No. 1 ranked fighter Jessica Aguilar.

Esparza, who lost to Aguilar in Bellator back in 2011 via split decision, had some criticism for Aguilar’s No. 1 ranking:

“You haven’t fought any of the top ten girls in, like, who knows how long. How can you even call yourself no. 1 if you fight people who aren’t even ranked? Who don’t give you a real challenge? Not to disrespect who she has fought. They’re game to fight and everything, but just as far as rankings go, do you feel like you’re really challenging yourself and can really call yourself no. 1? No, you cannot.”

Esparza isn’t wrong, being that Aguilar’s opponents have been outside the top 15 and above since she joined World Series of Fighting. To be fair, that’s more of an issue with WSoF not providing top-level competition. However, the real heat came in the form of a chemical fire:

“I know she does some extra stuff, which I feel like she is a cheater, to be totally honest. I’m trying to say that she’s a cheater and I don’t think because of what she’s done she can call herself no. 1 ever because of who she’s fought, even since she’s beaten me years ago. I feel like if you cheat then you never even won that fight, so whatever.

I know for a fact, but I’m not going to get into that. It doesn’t really matter. If she’s not getting popped or she hasn’t been tested, there’s not really anything anyone can say or do, so I’m not really going to sit here and harp on it. She’s talked so much trash on me, I almost feel like not even putting her on blast, but personally messaging her, ‘Really? How can you call yourself a martial artist and how can you sit here and talk trash on me and how you’re no. 1 if you’re going and doing these things?'”

I’m not the smartest cookie in the jar, but I’m having trouble following Esparza’s logic. She knows that Aguilar is a PED user, but because she hasn’t ever tested positive, Esparza doesn’t want to talk about it. Except she feels that Aguilar “never even won that fight” because she’s a cheater. Oh, and how does Esparza know that Aguilar uses PEDs? Let her explain:

“Oh, I know she was [using]. Because a friend of mine told me that they personally gave her shots in her butt or whatever.”

That’s right, a friend of Esparza’s personally injected Aguilar with drugs. Doesn’t that make it kind of fishy that Esparza is friends with a alleged steroid supplier?

Maybe Esparza should spend less time accusing people of using steroids and more time focusing on how to effectively strike so she doesn’t get completely obliterated in her next fight.
