To millions of Game of Thrones fans around the world, Hafthor Bjornsson is “The Mountain.” But off screen the 6’9, nearly 400 pound giant has a day job: professional strongman. On Saturday, Bjornsson showed just how beastly a strongman he is when he tossed a 33-pound beer keg over 23 feet in the air, breaking his own record at the World’s Strongest Man Qualifying Tour event at the Giants Live Sweden in the process.
According to Bjornsson, breaking the record was no big deal, and he even took mercy on the arena’s infrastructure.
“It was easy! I could have broken the roof,” he said. “It was amazing to do this in front of the great crowd. Bring on Europe’s Strongest Man.”
The three-time World’s Strongest finalist is no stranger to breaking records, and he’s been on a bit of a tear in 2015. At the World’s Strongest Viking competition earlier this year, he broke a 1,000 year old Viking record for strength when he carried a 32-foot, 1,433 pound log for five steps.
In March at the 2015 Arnold Sports Festival, Bjornsson established a new world record by throwing a 56-pound kettle bell 19 feet and three inches in the air with one hand. Simply put: Bjornsson is a badass. A very strong badass.
