San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich made a bold political statement on Saturday night: he’s voting for Pedro.

Pedro, of course, is Pedro Sanchez from 2004 cult classic Napoleon Dynamite. In the film, Sanchez is the best friend of the titular character and runs for class president. Napoleon then wears a “Vote For Pedro” shirt for most of the movie. If you were in high school when this movie came out, you saw this shirt at least once a day in the hallway. Maybe the Spurs coach is hoping to bring it back in style.
Pop’s timing is convenient given that a presidential election is just days away, but this isn’t the first time he’s been seen making political statements with his clothing. Here he is wearing the same shirt with U.S. Swimmer Michael Phelps.

Pop gave a speech to the U.S. Olympic swim team on July 15 before the Rio Olympics. Check out his threads in that third shot of him on stage.
Popovich is, of course, succeeding Mike Krzyzewski as Team USA men’s basketball head coach next year and presumably will be the team’s head coach at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Anyway, I hope reporters asked Pop to dance like Napoleon did in the movie. I bet Pop’s got the moves.
