When you think about it, the fact that quarterbacks never get intercepted during spikes is a bit of a surprise. It’s a play that is easily telegraphed because signal callers will tell their teammates what’s going on, offensive linemen don’t usually block all that aggressively, and if a defensive tackle can get off the line quick enough, there’s a chance that they can get down on the ground fast enough and beat the ball. Sure, this isn’t something that should happen every week, but it seems like the kind of thing that could happen once or twice over the course of a year.
One unidentified high school football player apparently had that thought and decided to go for an interception on a spike during a recent game. It’s hard to tell the teams, the score, or the situation, but whatever the situation, this is a spectacular play by this guy. He was helped a lot by the fact that the opposing center decided to go low, so he just jumped over the top of him. It was also easier for him because the quarterback decided to wind his arm up and throw the ball down instead of speeding up the process. Still, give this kid a lot of credit, because he made a spectacular play.
